At Promesse de Fleurs, as everywhere, we watch with dismay the consequences of the recent inclement weather. And of course, as gardeners, our thoughts are with those whose homes, and gardens too, have been flooded.

But as we must move forward, let's be pragmatic: what to do if your garden has been flooded?

Unfortunately, nothing. Often, as the water recedes, the temptation to go and inspect the damage is strong: resist the urge to walk on the waterlogged soil as it would only worsen the situation.

If it's permissible to shed a tear (I think that's what I would do…), don't be too pessimistic; nature has an impressive capacity for resilience, and there is a good chance that many young plants, even those least suited to this kind of situation, will eventually recover.

But perhaps you've just received an order… In that case, leave your young plants in their pots, and, by keeping an eye on watering (yes, I know, it's ironic), they can safely wait for the soil to dry out before being planted.

Finally, discover our tips: 5 things to do in the garden to reduce the risk of flooding.
