Description

The Christophe ColombĀ® Rose is an invitation to travel with its large, generous, well-formed flowers in sunset hues. Its blend of various warm, colourful shades of pink and orange with a golden touch stands out in the garden. A continuous bloomer, this bush flowers abundantly throughout the season, offering a tireless display. Its dense, disease-resistant foliage makes this variety an excellent plant for flowerbeds requiring little maintenance. Its classic-shaped roses with a delicate fragrance are perfect for creatingĀ  glorious cut flower arrangements.

Created in 1991 by the Meilland nursery, the Christophe ColombĀ® ā€˜Meironsse’ Rose is a hybrid tea rose bush, a horticultural category renowned for its large, turbinate flowers borne on long stems and its continuous flowering. It is also marketed under the names of Cristobal Colon Rose and Flamboyance Rose and its excellence has earned it international acclaim. It has won several prestigious awards including a Gold Medal in Durban in 1990, a Certificate in Roeulx in 1991, and a Gold Medal in Genoa in 1992.Ā
The Christophe ColombĀ® Rose forms an upright and balanced bush reaching 80 cm to 1 m in height and 40 to 50 cm in spread. ItsĀ glossy, dark green, dense, and healthy foliage serves as a backdrop to its sunny-coloured flowers. Highly floriferous, this rose offersĀ continuous flowering from May-June until October. The Indian orange, 13 cm-diameter flowers displayĀ a blend of pinkish-orange red with coppery reflections reminiscent of the warm, spicy hue of saffron or paprika. Under the sun, the petals reveal subtle nuances, alternating between burnt orange and vibrant red, with occasional slightly golden touches on the edges. The flowers' turbinate shape highlights their ruffled, elegantly arranged petals. Though light, their fragrance enhances their charm. With an excellent vase life, the 'Christophe Colomb' roses bring a pleasant note of exoticism and warmth indoors.

The Christophe ColombĀ® Rose is perfect for structuring a bed, creating a small flowering hedge, or taking centre stage in a flowerbed. Paired with blue flowers from certain sages (Salvia nemorosa 'Blue Bouquetta', Salvia patens) or warm-toned perennials like rudbeckias, it will create vibrant scenes. With its generous flowering and vigour, it is a reliable choice to enhance any type of landscape design.

Planting and care

To plant your Christophe Colomb rose, prepare the soil by digging a 30 cm cube, breaking up the earth well and adding a base fertiliser such as dried blood or dehydrated horn at the bottom of the planting hole. Place your plant after removing it from its pot, covering the top of the root ball with 3 cm of soil, backfill and water thoroughly to eliminate any air pockets. In dry weather, water regularly for a few weeks to encourage root development. Also consider feeding your rose with a special rose fertiliser to stimulate flowering. Choose a sunny spot, or partial shade in very hot regions.
