Description

Alocasia 'California' (Alocasia gageana 'California') is a majestic variety of Elephant's Ear, a prized houseplant renowned for its spectacular foliage. Its very large, heart-shaped green leaves with prominent veins bring an exotic touch to contemporary or jungle-style settings. To enjoy its beauty, place it in a bright spot without direct sunlight and maintain high ambient humidity.

Alocasia 'California' is a perennial from the Araceae family, likely derived from a botanical species called Alocasia gageana. This plant has an upright habit, reaching up to 1.20m in height and 1m in spread, depending on growing conditions. Its broad, glossy leaves feature a deep green hue and a slightly wavy texture, giving the plant a majestic appearance. Summer flowering is rare indoors in the form of subtle cream-coloured spathes.
Native to tropical regions of Asia, the botanical species Alocasia gageana thrives in humid and warm environments, often beneath the canopy of tropical forests. For successful indoor cultivation, it is essential to replicate a similar atmosphere in terms of light, humidity, and temperature. Caution: all parts of the plant are toxic if ingested, so it is advisable to keep it out of reach of children and pets.

Alocasia 'California' is ideal for creating a tropical ambience in your home. This variety fits into contemporary, Scandinavian, or more informal decor styles. Placed in a white ceramic or wicker pot, it becomes an elegant focal point in a living room or conservatory. It can also be placed outdoors, sheltered from direct sunlight, during the warmer months. To complement its exotic charm, pair it with plants such as Monstera or Philodendron 'McDowell' with its creeping habit, which share similar light and humidity requirements.
