Description

Angelonia Archangel™ Deep Rose is a variety with large semi-double flowers, the largest observed in this type of plant. Its deep purple-pink spikes bloom in long, upright clusters above dense, glossy, dark green foliage. This compact and branching plant forms a well-balanced clump, highly decorative in containers, hanging baskets, and flower borders. Its generous and continuous flowering lasts from June to September.

Angelonia angustifolia belongs to the Scrophulariaceae family, like snapdragons. Native to tropical regions of Mexico, Central and South America, the apparent delicacy of this plant hides great hardiness, as it tolerates moderate drought in open ground. This is a tender perennial in its native lands and has given rise to numerous cultivars, all sharing good heat tolerance and seeming unappealing to pests and diseases.

The 'Archangel Deep Rose' variety stands out for its compact and branched habit, quickly reaching 30 cm in height and 30 cm in width. The sturdy flowering stems bear two-lipped flowers resembling miniature orchids or small snapdragons. The flowers bloom above the foliage, composed of small, long, narrow, dark green leaves, aromatic when crushed, arranged alternately on the stems. In mild climates, Angelonia may self-seed in light soil.

Angelonia 'Archangel Deep Rose' thrives in full sun but also tolerates partial shade. This variety prefers well-draining soil, even slightly dry, and handles summer heat well. Maintenance is minimal, requiring only occasional pruning to remove spent stems and encourage flowering. Hardy and weather-resistant, it’s an excellent choice for containers or flower beds. Pair it with petunias, ivy-leaved geraniums, dark-leaved morning glories, or trailing verbenas like 'Endurascape Pink Bicolour'.

Planting and care

Plant Angelonia Archangel Deep Rose in a sunny or partially shaded position. They require light, well-draining, humus-bearing soil and benefit from fertiliser. They tolerate fairly dry soil when planted in the ground (though flowering will stop if the soil becomes too dry). You can grow your Angelonia in pots or directly in the ground. In pots, they need regular watering. Remove faded flowers regularly to encourage new blooms.

Please note, our plug plants are professional products intended for experienced gardeners: upon arrival, transplant and store them under cover (conservatory, greenhouse, cold frame...) at a temperature above 14°C for a few weeks before moving them outdoors once all risk of frost has passed.
