This Spear & Jackson Ratchet Anvil Secateurs with Rotating Handle are a high-quality cutting tool. They are ergonomic, powerful, robust, easy to handle, and lightweight. They are equipped with SK5 carbon steel blades coated with anti-corrosion PTFE, and a ratchet system that multiplies the force for effortless cutting of dead wood or mature branches up to 20mm in diameter. This cutting tool is ideal for long pruning tasks that involve repetitive movements. This product is guaranteed for 10 years by the manufacturer.

Secateurs are an essential tool that every gardener should have, whether they need to maintain a small balcony, a terrace, a small urban garden, a large countryside garden, or an orchard. Anvil secateurs differ from the classic secateurs in that their sharp blade, sharpened on both sides, is thicker and crushes against the completely flattened opposite metal part. This prevents the branches from twisting during cutting. The ratchet system, which multiplies the force applied to the handles, significantly reduces muscle effort in the hands, up to three times for the same cutting result: the tool almost works by itself. With each press-release action, the ratchet system advances one notch, allowing the blades to cut thicker branches (up to 2cm in diameter) in successive steps. The movable lower handle follows the hand movement and reduces fatigue in the wrist. These Spear & Jackson anvil and ratchet secateurs, ideal for pruning numerous plants or for those with joint problems, are well-suited for cutting old or dead wood. To prevent accidental opening of the blades, these secateurs have a metal locking latch that keeps them closed.

Technical specifications and additional features:

  • Automatic rotating lower handle to reduce hand effort and fatigue.
  • Ratchet mechanism for cutting thicker branches in four steps instead of a single cutting action.
  • SK5 carbon steel blades, high in carbon content and very hard, to increase blade strength and maintain sharpness for longer.
  • PTFE-coated blades (a polymer often called Teflon) for good rust resistance and smooth cutting action.
  • Resistant and lightweight handles with aluminium body and non-slip grip for better handling and comfort during work.
  • Metal locking latch.
  • Finger guard for added safety.

This tool is covered by a warranty. The warranty does not apply to handles, only to the metal parts, excluding consumables (screws, springs, etc.), and within the scope of normal use.

Detailed features

Directions for use These secateurs can be used to cut dead, dry or mature (hard) branches and twigs up to 20mm in diameter. They are perfect for heavy pruning work that involves repetitive movements. Clean the blades with alcohol after use to disinfect them and prevent the spread of diseases. This also helps to keep them in good condition (the sap of some plants can attack the blades of secateurs or make them sticky). Store this tool away from bad weather, in a dry place.
