Certains adoptent naturellement une belle forme sphérique naturellement, comme le Berberis 'Admiration' chez les arbustes, ou le Catalpa bignonioides 'Nana' chez les arbres. Ils n'auront donc pas besoin d'être taillés pour prendre place dans les massifs dédiés.
D'autres, tels le houx crénelé 'Green Hedge', sans oublier bien entendu les buis boules, se prêtent particulièrement bien à la taille. Ils peuvent s'intégrer avec bonheur aux compositions à la française, ainsi qu'aux espaces où les formes rondes organisent la structure.
