Adorable little flowers. In fact, they are perennial.

Description

The Angelonia angustifolia Angelface Blue is a tender perennial plant, often grown as an annual, notable for its floribundity and its undemanding nature. It offers remarkably abundant flowering, with long upright clusters of small flowers in a vibrant violet-blue colour, highlighted with white, and accompanied by fragrant, shiny green foliage. This new selection has a more vigorous, bushy growth habit and flowers profusely from May to October. It is perfect for pots, containers, and hanging baskets. It thrives in the sun and requires minimal maintenance.

The Angelonia angustifolia is a plant in the family of scrophulariaceae, just like snapdragons. It is native to Mexico, Central America, and tropical South America. Don't be fooled by the apparent delicacy of this plant, as it is actually quite robust and can tolerate relative drought when grown in the ground. This perennial plant in its native habitat has given rise to numerous cultivars, which all share a good tolerance to drought and heat, and seem to be unappealing to insects and diseases. 'Angelface Blue' is a variety that forms a bushy clump as tall as it is wide, reaching 45cm (18in) in all directions when in bloom. The plant produces flexible flowering stems from May to October, which bear numerous small labiate flowers in a fairly deep blue-violet colour, with a white-spotted petal. They resemble both small orchids and snapdragons. The flowers bloom among the foliage, which is composed of small, long, and narrow leaves in a shiny green colour, arranged alternately on the stems. In regions with a mild climate, it can spontaneously self-seed in light soil.

The Angelonia Angelface Blue is an essential plant, easy to combine, ideal for quickly creating a summer setting. This plant is resistant to heat and rain. It is a good choice for borders, containers, and rock gardens. It looks fantastic in large floral arrangements, paired with dark-leaved petunias or ipomoeas, trailing geraniums, diascas, trailing verbenas, and many other species suitable for full sun. It also makes long-lasting cut flowers.

Note: Please be aware that our young plug plants are professional products intended for experienced gardeners. Upon receipt, transplant and store them in a sheltered location (conservatory, greenhouse, cold frame, etc) at a temperature above 14°C (57.2°F) for a few weeks before planting them outdoors once the risk of frost has passed.

Planting and care

Plant your Angelonias in a sunny or possibly partially shaded location. They require a light, well-draining and humus-rich soil and appreciate fertilization. They tolerate rather dry soil if planted in the ground (although flowering will be interrupted in case of excessively dry soil). You can plant your Angelonias in pots or in the ground. In pots, they need to be regularly watered. Regularly remove faded flowers, as this will promote the appearance of new flowers.

Attention, our young plants in plug plants are professional products reserved for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant and store them in a sheltered place (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame) at a temperature above 14C° for a few weeks before being planted outdoors once the risk of frost has definitively passed.
