As expected at the plant level. But they did not manage to recover and died (in the same planter I had some common lavender which thrived) so off to the bin. What a pity.

Description

Lavandula stoechas or butterfly lavender has blue flowers in spikes topped with intense violet bracts forming small raised wings. The flowering in spring can last until autumn.

The highly aromatic foliage of the butterfly lavender is a lovely silver-grey colour and, like all lavenders, it is evergreen.

Moderately hardy in cold and humid regions, Lavandula stoechas prefers to be grown in a pot in regions with very cold winters.

Planting and care

Plant the butterfly lavender in a sunny location in neutral to acidic soil, even stony and rocky, very well drained. Avoid watering even if the summer is very hot as it dislikes excess moisture. In acidic soil, it has more colourful flowers. Like all lavenders, it is advisable to prune it systematically after flowering to keep it compact and prevent the development of woody stems.  Be careful, vegetation does not grow back on the wood. Always prune above a leaf.
