Description

Celastrus scandens Autumn Revolution is a climbing shrub whose very unique fruits remain decorative from late summer until October. These fruits hang in bicoloured clusters, with orange capsules opening to reveal a red pearl. These lovely fruits will attract birds, but don't imitate them, as the seed is toxic.

The main advantage of Celastrus Autumn Revolution is that it is self-fertile, meaning that it does not require a male and female plant to produce fruit. This characteristic makes this variety a particularly fruit-bearing Celastrus.

The climbing Celastrus is perfect for decorating a pergola. If you want to associate it with a tree, choose one that is strong, as the Celastrus is also known as the tree executioner and tends to impede the growth of younger trees.

Planting and care

Celastrus scandens Autumn Revolution is suitable for both sunny and lightly shaded areas. It tolerates limestone as long as the soil is enriched with a little humus during planting. Pruning the Celastrus is only necessary to contain or guide it. To avoid hindering flowering and fruiting, prune it at the end of winter.
