Very beautiful clumps, the same goes for Belarina Carmen and Belarina nectarine.

Description

The 'Belarina Amethyst Ice' double Primrose is a true delight for the eyes. The very double flowers are a pale bluish purple, with petals finely edged in white. A discreet splash of bright yellow in the center brightens their cool tone. They rest in languid bouquets on a tangle of large, wavy and evergreen leaves, with a generous bright green colour. Once widely planted in English cottages, double primroses had almost disappeared. New varieties are bringing these very romantic biennials back into the spotlight, much to our delight!

The Primula vulgaris (acaulis) 'Belarina Amethyst Ice' is a herbaceous biennial plant from the primrose family, derived from the common Primula vulgaris found in our meadows and woodlands. It is part of a series of recent developments that stand out for the doubling of their corollas and their very vibrant colours. They are floriferous and fragrant plants that form beautiful and dense foliage clumps in just a few months, reaching heights of 15 to 20 cm (6 to 8in) and widths of 20 to 30 cm (8 to 12in). They develop persistent rosettes of wavy and veined leaves, with a beautiful bright green colour. 'Belarina Amethyst Ice' produces 3 to 4 cm (1 to 2in) diameter flowers that appear for 4 to 5 weeks. They are very double, resembling small roses, with pale bluish purple color with white margins and yellow macula, arranged in perfect bouquets. They are not only beautiful but also fragrant, carried by short villous peduncles surrounded by luxuriant foliage collars.

'Belarina' primroses are truly easy to grow biennials. Perfect in pots, containers, flower beds, borders, and even in shade with fertile and moist soil, they deserve a place in every garden and on every balcony. They announce and precede the return of spring along with botanical tulips, pansies, horned violets, and forget-me-nots. Ideal under deciduous trees, in rockeries and short grass meadows, they mingle with snowdrops and violets. The leaves and flowers are edible and can be consumed raw or cooked.

Properties:

They are the same as those of the common primrose and the oxlip: the flowers have soothing and calming properties, and are used in expectorant preparations. The leaves help prevent bruising, and the whole plant (especially the root) has analgesic, anti-spasmodic, diuretic, and expectorant properties.

Note: Attention, our young plug plants are professional products reserved for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant them as soon as possible, in pots, containers, or directly in flower beds.

Planting and care

The 'Belarina Amethyst Ice' double primrose plug plants can be planted in pots and containers or directly in the ground in a finely prepared and enriched soil. Plant them as soon as possible after receiving them, in September-October. If the intended location is not ready yet or the conditions are unfavorable for planting, you can grow them in buckets for 4 to 6 weeks.

In pots and containers, use a good potting compost for flowering plants (such as geranium compost) enriched with clay and slow-release fertilizer, lightweight and well-draining. The top of the plug should be level with the compost. Water generously at planting and during the following weeks, as the plug plants can dry out quickly. However, be careful not to overwater! Make sure to use containers with drainage holes and empty the saucer 10 minutes after watering. Remember to water even during winter if it doesn't rain or if the container is placed in a sheltered spot. Do not water during freezing periods.

Highly floriferous and fast-growing, the 'Belarina' perennial primroses are hungry plants. As soon as growth resumes, in late February or early March, and throughout the flowering period, apply a liquid fertilizer for flowering plants containing iron and trace elements 1 to 2 times a week with the watering. Remove faded flowers to promote new blooms. Once the flowering is over, potted plants can be replanted in the garden in partial shade.
