Naked young plants received tiny and not in great condition. Only one seems to have survived, but I'll wait for next summer...

Description

Dianthus barbatus 'Jolt Pink' is a brand new hybrid variety of carnation that performs well in the garden and pots. Dense clusters of small, single, slightly fragrant vibrant medium pink carnations appear on bushy, branching plants. This carnation devotes all its energy to tirelessly blooming, from spring to frost, unaffected by gloomy skies and heavy rain, summer heat, or short summers. This is a short-lived perennial, often grown as a biennial, easy to grow in moist, rich, well-drained soil, in full sun or partial shade.

Dianthus barbatus is a plant from the Caryophyllaceae family, found in many temperate regions of Europe and Asia. It is not very long-lived and blooms in the second year after sowing, so it is often used as a biennial. The 'Jolt' series brings together cultivars selected for their vigorous and branching growth, vibrant colours, and excellent tolerance to heat and cold. 'Jolt Pink' forms a dense mound of dark green foliage and blooms from spring to late summer, or autumn. Its very small flowers are gathered in large, flat-topped clusters at the end of sturdy stems, 45 cm (18in) tall. The flowers are a very vibrant pink, with a discreet, pleasant fragrance, spicy and sweet, reminiscent of cloves and cinnamon. The flowers of this variety are sterile, which enhances its floribundity.

Dianthus 'Jolt Pink' is very easy to grow and requires minimal maintenance. Like bellflowers and columbines, these plants fit well in all gardens, and all bouquets. Choose a prominent location, for example along a pathway or near an entrance, to fully enjoy the plant's sweet fragrance. In flower beds, plant carnations in mass to create beautiful splashes of colour, and let them spill over into the vegetable garden for cutting. 'Jolt Pink' grows very well in pots, on the terrace or balcony, where it rivals the most beautiful balcony geraniums for brightness and flower power.

Note: Please be aware that our young plug plants are professional products reserved for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant and store them under cover (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame...) at a temperature above 14C° for a few weeks before planting outdoors once all risk of frost has passed.
