It's not orange but light red. Still very beautiful. The poppies are young plants that are not easily established but are very floriferous if they decide to settle.

Description

The 'Harvest Moon' Oriental poppy is an original variety due to its orangish color.

Towards the end of spring, crumpled flowers bloom.

An excellent transitional plant for flower beds, the 'Harvest Moon' Oriental poppy blooms during a dormant period (after spring flowering and before summer flowering). It pairs very well with the chartreuse green of lady's mantle or cypress spurge.

Oriental poppies are excellent perennial plants for flower beds. Behind their large flowers with crumpled petals, hides a very robust plant capable of surviving in poor, rocky, and dry soils in summer. After abundant flowering at the end of spring, the poppy dries up, first the flower stems, which can be used in dried bouquets, and then the leaves.

It completely disappears and goes dormant in the heart of summer, and re-emerges in autumn to bloom again as soon as the temperatures become milder.

It only fears one thing, winter humidity; in heavy soils, the solution is to replace the clay soil with pure sand in the planting hole.

Planting and care

Perennial poppies thrive in full sun and grow in any well-drained garden soil. In heavy and clayey soils, you will plant your poppy in a hole filled with pure sand in a volume equivalent to 3 times that of the bucket. Cut off faded flower stalks and clean up old foliage during the summer, but be careful! Wear gloves because the plant secretes a toxic white latex that can cause serious burns if it comes into contact with the eyes!
