More information

This philodendron is a rather rare variety that hasn't revealed all its mysteries yet. It produces variable-shaped leaves, deeply lobed, with a glossy appearance and dark green colour. They are very elongated and can reach up to 60 cm in length. This climbing species requires a stake or support, bright light without direct sunlight, and fairly high humidity to thrive. It flourishes in well-drained soil and prefers temperatures between 18 and 25°C.

Description

Philodendron '69686' is a variety full of mystery rarely found in cultivation. Known to be quite variable, its leaves can take on multiple forms. They are deeply divided, very glossy, dark green and elegant. They change over time and can grow up to 60 cm long! This indoor plant, which is not too demanding, is a climber and tolerates bright light without direct sunlight.

Belonging to the Araceae familyPhilodendron 69686 comes from the plant collection of the famous Brazilian artist and collector Roberto Burle-Marx, and it appears to be a natural hybrid. However, its origin has never been confirmed, so there is little scientific information available about this plant. Its curious name '69686' is an accession number used to register this species with the Missouri Botanical Gardens. It is a climbing plant with distinctly lobed leaves. The leaves have a very elongated heart shape and can grow up to 60 cm long. Quite variable from one plant to another, as well as on the same vine, they range from a lance-shaped form, with a large central lobe and two small side lobes, to "clover-like" forms with three nearly equal-sized lobes, all in a bright, glossy green. All parts of the Philodendron 69686 contain calcium oxalates, toxic if ingested, which can cause oral and digestive irritation.

To enhance its aesthetic appeal, pair Philodendron 69686 with plants that have similar needs, such as Alocasias or Syngoniums, also members of the Araceae family. These combinations will create a lush, tropical atmosphere in your home!

Location

Potting advice, substrates and fertilisers

Remove damaged leaves regularly to encourage healthy growth. Pruning is generally not required.
