Description
The interspecific Impatiens Solarscape White Pearl captivates with the purity and elegance of its white flowers. This sun-tolerant hybrid variety brings light into flowerbeds, borders and planters. Disease-resistant and easy to grow, it flowers from spring until the first frosts. A generous and reliable variety for sunny spots often overlooked by traditional impatiens growers.
The Impatiens or interspecific Impatiens Solarscape® White Pearl ('PAS1631817') is an F1 hybrid cultivar developed by PanAmerican Seed. This plant is the result of cross-breeding between Impatiens walleriana and I. hawkeri. It combines the floribundus nature of the walleriana species with the robustness and sun tolerance of hawkeri. The Solarscape series is unique in its genus: propagated only by sowing, it rivals the performance and floribundus nature of Impatiens and Sunpatiens from propagation by cuttings. All these plants belong to the balsaminaceae family.
The Impatiens Solarscape® White Pearl is a very tender perennial plant grown as an annual in our climates. It forms a small, bushy and rounded clump approximately 25 to 30 cm in height and 33 to 50 cm in width. Its growth is rapid: the final size is reached 11 to 16 weeks after sowing. The flowers of a diameter of 6 to 7 cm are pure white. The flowering spreads from May-June until the first frosts. The ovate and shiny dark green leaves measure 5 to 7 cm in length. They are borne on fleshy and ramified stems from the base, which give this variety an attractive, dense and regular habit.
The Impatiens 'Solarscape White Pearl' brings freshness and elegance to flower beds, planters and borders. Its white colour is easy to combine in the garden or in a flower box. Pair it for example with Petunias 'Supertunia Vista Bubblegum' with its soft pink flowers, with verbenas 'Endurascape Purple Imp' of a beautiful purplish pink, or with Calibrachoas 'Superbells Lemon Slice' in a more zesty scene.
Our advice: To maintain adequate coolness and preserve soil moisture in summer, it is preferable to place a mulch at the base of the plants.

Planting and care
To successfully sow Impatiens Solarscape White Pearl, begin by sowing the seeds indoors approximately 8 to 10 weeks before the last frosts are typically observed. Use a light, well-drained potting mix, preferably enriched with organic matter. The seeds should simply be pressed onto the surface of the soil as they require light to germinate. Maintain a constant temperature of 20–24°C and ensure the growing medium remains moist but not waterlogged. Germination should occur within 14 to 21 days. Once the seedlings are sufficiently developed, transplant them into individual pots, gradually acclimatising them to outdoor conditions. Wait until the risk of frosts has completely passed before planting them in the ground or in containers, spacing them 15–20 cm apart.
Impatiens are easy to grow. They should be placed in full sun or partial shade. To accelerate their growth, bring them on in pots in a warm and bright location. Plant Impatiens in cool, well-drained, humus-rich soil. Water regularly, but take care not to overwater. Apply a liquid fertiliser for containers once or twice a week during the growth period. Remove faded flowers and dry leaves as needed to maintain a tidy appearance and prolong flowering. Be mindful to protect them from slugs which are fond of their young leaves. Lastly, although this variety is resistant to downy mildew, it is important to monitor for signs of disease or pests and intervene promptly if necessary.

- On the west coast and in the north-west (Galway, Limerick, Sligo, Donegal, Westport), delay planting by 1 to 2 weeks in spring and bring it forward by 1 to 2 weeks in autumn compared to the dates given, preferably choosing periods without strong winds.
- In the inland hills and plateaus (Wicklow Mountains, Macgillycuddy’s Reeks, Connemara, Killarney), it is best to plant in spring (April–May) or autumn (September–October), avoiding periods of waterlogged soil in winter and strong winds, which pose the main risk to newly planted trees in these areas.
