Description
Petunia nana Eyelash F1 Mix is a blend of dwarf multiflora petunias with large pastel corollas, enhanced by a throat with intense purple veins that radiate to the edge of the petals. These compact cushions become covered in charming flowers, without interruption from May-June until the first frosts. This F1 Hybrid combines the floriferousness of multifloras with good resistance to inclement weather.
Coated seeds allow petunias to be sown with precision and produce very uniform young plants, ideal for creating immaculate window boxes and borders. This annual plant is floriferous and should be sown in warmth, from the end of winter.
Botanically, the Eyelash F1 Mix is Petunia × atkinsiana, a horticultural hybrid of the Solanaceae family. Garden petunias are the result of cross-breeding between South American wild species, particularly Petunia axillaris and Petunia integrifolia.
Eyelash F1 is a recent series selected by the Czech company Černý Seed s.r.o. Each plant forms a compact, spreading yet slightly rounded clump. The stems, branched from the base, are thin, downy and slightly sticky to the touch. Growth is rapid: in one season, plants reach 25 to 30cm in height with an equivalent spread.
The flowers are solitary in the leaf axils and have a calyx with five narrow sepals and a corolla fused into a funnel shape, with five rounded lobes. They measure 6.5 to 7cm in diameter and display various shades of light pink (soft pink, powdery pink, rosy white). Their purple heart with very fine radiating veins, reminiscent of eyelashes, inspired the name Eyelash. Flowering repeats from spring to autumn with regular watering and feeding.
In your pots and window boxes, pair these pink petunias with Lobelia erinus pendula 'Regatta' Mix or silver Dichondra Silver Falls with its trailing habit. Petunias have few rivals for colouring borders of grey-foliaged plants, such as snow-in-summer or Stachys byzantina 'Silver Carpet', but also for filling the base of fragrant roses.

Planting and care
Sow Eyelash F1 Mix petunia seeds from February to March.
In a seed tray, place the seeds on the surface of seed compost enriched with compost. Place the tray at a temperature of 21-27°C to encourage germination. Do not cover the seeds, but press them down lightly to make them cling to the substrate, which should be kept moist (certainly not waterlogged). Germination typically takes between 10 and 21 days.
Once the young plants are large enough to handle, transplant them into pots and allow them to develop in cooler conditions. 10 to 15 days before planting them out in the garden, gradually acclimatise them to outdoor conditions.
Once all risk of frost has passed, plant them in open ground or in containers, in a sunny position sheltered from strong winds, in well-drained soil.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
In temperate climates, pruning of spring-flowering shrubs (forsythia, spireas, etc.) should be done just after flowering.
Pruning of summer-flowering shrubs (Indian Lilac, Perovskia, etc.) can be done in winter or spring.
In cold regions as well as with frost-sensitive plants, avoid pruning too early when severe frosts may still occur.
The harvesting period indicated on our website applies to countries and regions in USDA zone 8 (France, England, Ireland, the Netherlands).
In colder areas (Scandinavia, Poland, Austria...) fruit and vegetable harvests are likely to be delayed by 3-4 weeks.
In warmer areas (Italy, Spain, Greece, etc.), harvesting will probably take place earlier, depending on weather conditions.
The sowing periods indicated on our website apply to countries and regions within USDA Zone 8 (France, UK, Ireland, Netherlands).
In colder areas (Scandinavia, Poland, Austria...), delay any outdoor sowing by 3-4 weeks, or sow under glass.
In warmer climes (Italy, Spain, Greece, etc.), bring outdoor sowing forward by a few weeks.
The planting period indicated on our website applies to regions in USDA Zone 9a (East Coast and Midlands: Dublin, Wexford, Waterford, Kilkenny, Portlaoise). It will vary depending on where you live:
- On the west coast and in the north-west (Galway, Limerick, Sligo, Donegal, Westport), delay planting by 1 to 2 weeks in spring and bring it forward by 1 to 2 weeks in autumn compared to the dates given, preferably choosing periods without strong winds.
- In the inland hills and plateaus (Wicklow Mountains, Macgillycuddy’s Reeks, Connemara, Killarney), it is best to plant in spring (April–May) or autumn (September–October), avoiding periods of waterlogged soil in winter and strong winds, which pose the main risk to newly planted trees in these areas.
The flowering period indicated on our website applies to regions in USDA Zone 9a, such as the East Coast and Midlands, including Dublin, Wexford, Waterford, Kilkenny and Portlaoise.
This will vary depending on where you live:
- On the west coast and in the northwest (Galway, Limerick, Sligo, Donegal and Westport), it will be delayed by one to two weeks compared to the given dates, due to stronger Atlantic winds and less spring sunshine.
- In the inland hills and plateaus (the Wicklow Mountains, the Macgillycuddy's Reeks, Connemara and Killarney), flowering will be delayed by two to three weeks. Flowering mainly occurs between May and July, with the limiting factors being less frost and more of the excessive humidity, strong winds and lack of sunshine that are characteristic of these areas.
