Description

The Pendulous Chanson Deep Red F1 Begonia, has the Latin name Begonia x tuberhybrida pendula Chanson Deep Red F1. It is a Begonia resulting from a rigorous horticultural selection focused on creating a variety with long and abundant double flowering resembling Camellia flowers.

The Begonias from which it originates live in a cool and shaded environment, protected from direct sunlight. The same conditions should be provided for its installation in our gardens, terraces, balconies, and windows.

Cultivate the Pendulous Chanson Deep Red F1 Begonia in a pot, in rich and moist soil. It is a semi-hardy perennial plant that is sensitive to temperatures below 5°C. Therefore, in autumn, the pots should be brought indoors, the foliage should be allowed to dry, and then the tubers should be extracted from the soil, brushed, and stored in a dry place until the following spring.

The plant develops long flexible stems that are 45 to 60 cm (17.7 - 23.6 in) long and rise to a height of 20-30 cm (7.9 - 11.8 in) before bending and cascading with flowers. Its leaves, typical of Begonias, are asymmetrical, dentate, with a shiny green color and slightly tinged with red along the edges. The hairy stems, tinged with red, contribute to the decorative beauty of its foliage.

From July to October, an abundant flowering covers a large part of the foliage. The flowers are large double or semi-double bell-shaped flowers, 5-10 cm (2 - 3.9 in) in length, and pendulous in bright red color.

Its pendulous habit is ideal for flowering pots on the terrace, flower boxes and hanging baskets on balconies and windows in shady areas.

Planting and care

Attention: The seed of Begonia is very fine, delicately open the packet on two sides with a pair of scissors.

Sow Begonia during Chanson Deep Red F1 from January to March in a seed tray. Use good quality soil that you will sift on the surface to bind the seed well to its substrate. Before sowing, lightly press the soil with a board and lightly moisten it. Sow your seeds delicately. Do not cover the seeds. Water with a very fine rain or with a small hand sprayer. Place your seed tray in light, without direct sunlight, at a temperature of 24°C to 27°C.

The seeds will take 15 to 60 days to germinate. As soon as the plants are manageable, transplant them into 7cm (2.8 in) pots. Keep the soil moist but not excessive during growth. Then, 15 days before their final placement, start gradually acclimating them to a temperature of 15°C.

By the end of May or early June, the temperature will be warm enough in the garden to plant your young plants. Choose a shaded location. Add a good handful of compost to each planting hole. Space your plants 20 cm (7.9 in) apart.

Regularly remove faded flowers to maintain beauty and promote renewal.

In autumn, bring the pots indoors and let the foliage dry before extracting the tubers from the soil, brushing them off, and storing them dry until the following spring when they can be replanted in pots.
