Description

Floriferous shrubs, of which thousands of varieties have been created through successive and repeated cross-breeding. Only species and varieties with good hardiness are suited for the garden. In colder regions, the stumps will benefit from being protected with a litter layer of dead leaves after cutting back the foliage to 10 cm (3.9 in) above the ground.

This is the only variety we present that is not hardy, but it is so unique and beautiful that we cannot resist the urge to introduce it to you. It is a dense bush, composed of reddish stems and large, bright green, shiny, ovate and lanceolate leaves that can reach 20 cm (7.9 in) in length. The flowers are in dense clusters at the end of the stems and resemble tiny light pink cyclamen flowers. They bloom from June to October and are followed by round berries, first mahogany red and then black, covered with a fine blue bloom.

Planting and care

Plant it in a large pot where it will have plenty of room, as it quickly reaches a height and width of 2 meters (6 feet 7 inches), and place it in partial shade as the sun can damage its foliage. Prune it just like the other species to maintain a compact habit. Bring it indoors to a bright room at the first sign of frost, as it cannot tolerate temperatures below -3°C (26.6 °F).
