Planting and care

Grown quite easy in a semi-shaded, limestone-free soil, very rich in humus. The ideal substrate is a stony subsoil, in a soil with a clayey tendency, covered with an abundant layer of leaf compost, in the company of hostas, epimediums etc. under a Japanese maple for example. The important thing is that the soil is always moist and well-drained. This plant goes into dormancy quite early, sometimes as early as August. There is no need to worry, it does so to protect itself from drought; you just need to remember the exact location where it is planted in order to avoid accidentally digging up the dormant rhizomes.
