Description

Petunia Patio Cherry Vein is a trailing variety, notable for its abundant spreading vegetation and pale pink flowers marked with cherry pink, from June to October.

This floriferous Petunia is a recommended selection for growing on the balcony and in hanging baskets, with its loose and trailing growth and a cascade of large single flowers from June to October. It reaches a height of 30-40cm (12-16in) and a width of 50-60cm (20-24in). The flowers measure 5 to 6 cm (2in) in diameter, with five petals arranged in a circle and a single flower per peduncle.

Petunia Patio Cherry Vein is resistant to drought and heat, thrives in sunny locations and exhibits rapid and vigorous growth.

Supplied as growing plants measuring 4 to 8cm (2 to 3in) in 5 small plugs, 2.5cm (1in) in diameter and 4cm (2in) in height. Our plants are at least eight weeks old and strong enough to be planted outdoors.

Note: Please be aware that our plug plants are products intended for experienced gardeners. Upon receipt, transplant and store them in a sheltered area (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame, etc.) at a temperature above 14°C (57.2°F) for a few weeks before planting them outdoors once all risk of frost has passed.

Planting and care

You can plant your Patio Cherry Vein Petunias in the ground or in a pot. If you want to plant them in the ground, wait until the last heavy frosts have passed (petunias can tolerate a light late frost). In the meantime, you can grow them on in a pot in a warm and bright place to speed up their growth. Petunias bloom from June to October. Plant your Patio Cherry Vein petunias in a sunny or partially shaded spot, sheltered from the wind. They need light and humus-bearing, well-drained soil. Do not water them too much at the beginning of the growing season as they are sensitive to excessive moisture. They tolerate drought well but will need regular watering during hot summer temperatures. Petunias are susceptible to frost (minimum -1°C (30.2°F)). They are floriferous and fast-growing, hungry plants. We recommend feeding them with a liquid fertiliser once or twice a week during the growing season. Remove faded flowers and dry leaves as they appear, to keep them looking good and extend the flowering period.
