Value-for-money
A single plant produces hundreds of blooms, in cascades of large single flowers, cherry-red with a purple throat, seeming almost to form a flowering bush with vigorous stems almost two metres long. This impressive petunia has a strongly trailing habit, which can also be trained to cover the ground, fences or trellises. This exuberant plant is also perfect in flowerbeds, pots and hanging baskets. This disease-resistant and rain-tolerant variety allows for the creation of luxurious displays in record time, when planted in the sun, in rich and moist soil.

Description

This Petunia Tidal Wave F1 Cherry is one of the most impressive hybrids. It unfurls long, flexible stems completely covered in large, single and delicate flowers, ranging from cherry-red to purple-throated. Its vigour is such that it almost forms a weeping bush, unfurling waves of immense flowers from summer to autumn without interruption. This impressive plant withstands rain well, making it perfect for creating swathes of colour in flowerbeds, pots, and hanging baskets (which it will overflow) and can quickly cover over ground, fences, or trellises. This fantastic Petunia loves the sun and rich, moist soils.

Our hybrid petunias are all derived from several plants native to the hot regions of South America. The Petunia Tidal Wave F1 Cherry belongs to the Solanaceae family, it is closely related to ornamental tobacco, and its foliage also contains alkaloids. 'Tidal Wave F1 Cherry' is part of a particularly vigorous series of American hybrids, resistant to botrytis, tolerant of rainy climates, and with large delicate flowers. The plant quickly forms a mass of trailing stems, 90 cm (35.4 in) wide and spreading over almost 2 metres. This variety flowers from June to October, provided it is regularly supplied with water and fertiliser. Its cup-shaped flowers are immense, 6 to 10 cm (3.9 in) wide, in a beautiful red-pink color. The center of the corolla is a darker pink-purple. The foliage, quite downy, is particularly resistant to diseases and bad weather, with entire edges and a dark green hue.

No other annual flowering plant has undergone such intense selection by breeders for such a long period. The results are impressive, as petunias rival pelargoniums for the splendour and length of their flowering, as evidenced by this Tidal Wave F1 Cherry variety. Plant it alone or with other Tidal Wave varieties, in large pots, or hanging baskets, as this plant will smother less vigorous companions. You can also plant it in a clump at the top of a wall, or wherever its flower-covered stems can cascade. If you want it to stand out, place several plants 60 cm (23.6 in) apart to form a frothy ground cover at the base of roses or grey-leaved shrubs like artemisias or 'Silver Anniversary' buddleia.

Please note that our young plants in mini-plugs are professional products intended for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant and store them under shelter (veranda, greenhouse, frame) at a temperature above 14C° for a few weeks before planting outside once all risk of frost has passed.

Planting and care

Plant your Tidal Wave petunias in a sunny site or possibly in partial shade, sheltered from the wind. These plants are resistant to botrytis (a pathogenic fungus that occurs in humid climates), and tolerate cool and humid climates very well without affecting their flowering. They need a light, moist and humus-rich soil and greatly appreciate fertiliser. You can plant your Petunias in a pot. They need to be watered regularly. Fertiliser should be applied every two weeks to maintain flowering and intensify the colours. Remove faded blooms regularly. Pinch the tips of the stems hard to encourage the plant to branch out more.
