Description

The Petunia 'Cardinal Rim' produces beautiful single, slightly fringed, purple flowers with white edges throughout the summer. This floriferous and vigorous variety has a slightly trailing habit, making it ideal for pots, hanging baskets, and other containers. It also looks great in a border. This annual plant thrives in sunny or partially shaded positions with well-drained soil.

Originating from South America, petunia is a perennial herbaceous plant grown as an annual in our climate. The 'Cardinal Rim' variety has a semi-trailing habit, ideal for hanging baskets or balcony containers. This Petunia is valued for its floriferous nature and rapid growth. It forms a 20 to 40 cm (8 to 16in) clump with a slightly trailing habit. Drought and heat tolerant, it thrives in sunny to partially shaded positions.

In your containers and borders, combine it with Petunia Bavaria Bell with double violet and white flowers, Petunia BeautiCal Pearl White with numerous white flowers, or Diascia Breeze Plus White. Also consider the Ipomoea Sweet Heart Jet Black for its almost black foliage, perfect for hanging baskets.

Note: Please be aware that our plug plants are professional products intended for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant them as soon as possible into pots, containers, or directly into borders.

Planting and care

The 'Cardinal Rim' petunia is an easy-to-grow plant that can be planted in a flowerbed or a pot, planter, or hanging basket. If you want to plant it in the ground, wait until the last frosts have passed (it is sensitive to frost: minimum -1°C (30.2°F)). While waiting to plant it in your flowerbeds, you can grow it in a pot in a warm and bright location to accelerate its growth. The 'Cardinal Rim' petunia prefers a sunny or partially shaded exposure, protected from the wind. It requires light and humus-bearing soil that does not retain too much water. It tolerates excess moisture at the root level quite poorly, especially at the beginning of its growth. Water it moderately. Once established, it can withstand drought but will need regular watering during hot summer periods. Being a heavy feeder, provide liquid fertiliser once or twice a week during the growth period. Remove faded flowers and dry leaves as they appear to keep them looking attractive and extend the flowering period.
