In great shape. I hope I'll be able to cultivate them properly in the apartment until I can take them outside.

Description

Petunia Capella Cherry Vanilla is part of a series of hybrids characterised by their compact habit, exceptional floribundance, vibrant colours, and heat resistance. This Cherry Vanilla variety produces large, single and sparkling flowers, with a blend of cherry red in the throat and white on the edges. They bloom tirelessly on a neat little tuft from May or June until late in the season. This annual plant has a striking effect in hanging baskets, containers, and flower beds. It is easy to grow in sunny, fertile, light and moist soil.

Hybrid petunias all originate from several plants native to the warm regions of South America. Petunia 'Capella Cherry Vanilla' belongs to the solanaceae family and is closely related to ornamental tobacco. Its foliage also contains alkaloids. This variety forms a compact ball of about 20-30 cm (8-12in) in all directions in record time. The plant flowers from May to October provided it is well-watered and regularly fed. Its large cup-shaped flowers are of considerable size and tightly packed together on dense foliage. The corolla is white on the edges and adorned with a beautiful cherry-pink throat that fades over time, around a small centre marked with yellow and pale green. The dark green, hairy foliage has entire edges and it is vigorous and healthy.

No other annual flowering plant has undergone such intense selection by breeders for such a long period. The results are impressive and petunias now compete with pelargoniums for the splendour and length of their flowering, as demonstrated by this 'Capella Cherry Vanilla' variety. Plant it in large pots or hanging baskets for a stunning result. Create a colourful combination with a pink, white, or mauve petunia. You can also plant it in borders with grey-leaved plants like cerastium, cineraria maritima, or artemisia.

Note: Attention, our plug plants are products intended for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant and store them in a sheltered place (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame...) at a temperature above 14°C (57.2°F) for a few weeks before being planted outdoors once all risk of frost has passed.

Planting and care

You can plant your Capella Cherry Vanilla petunias in the ground or in a pot. If you want to plant them in the ground, wait until the last heavy frosts have passed, they will tolerate a light late frost. In the meantime, you can grow them on in a pot in a warm and bright place to accelerate their growth. Petunias will flower from June to October in a sunny or semi-shady location sheltered from the wind. They need light, humus-rich, well-draining soil. Do not over-water them at the beginning of the growing season as they are sensitive to excess humidity. They tolerate drought well but will need regular watering during hot summer weather. They are very floriferous, rapidly growing, hungry plants. We recommend feeding them with liquid fertiliser once or twice a week during the growing season. Remove faded flowers and dry leaves as they appear to keep them looking good and extend the flowering period.
