Description

Impatiens SunPatiens Vigorous Rose Pink is a brand new hybrid variety of large size, remarkable in every way. Vigorous, disease-resistant, and tolerant to both sun and shade, it is covered with large flowers of a vibrant fuchsia pink that open in abundance on beautiful dark green foliage. These exceptional qualities are combined with excellent floribundity, from late spring until the first frost. This frost-tender perennial plant will be grown as an annual, ideally in a sunny flowerbed, or planted en masse mixed with other varieties from the Sunpatiens series. It is also a very beautiful plant for summer compositions and flower pots.

Impatiens SunPatiens Vigorous Rose Pink is a hybrid cultivar of the Balsaminaceae family, derived, among others, from Impatiens hawkeri, a botanical species native to Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. Sunpatiens plants grow quickly and are cultivated as annuals in our climate. They have been selected in the USA for their ability to tolerate full sun exposure, their resistance to powdery mildew, their floribundity, and their increased vigour.

'Vigorous Rose Pink' develops from a strong stem into an upright clump with sturdy stems, a bushy and spreading habit, with a minimum height of 80cm (32in) and a diameter of 70cm (28in). It is a highly floriferous Impatiens that blooms from June until the first frost in October. It has large, single, cup-shaped flowers in intense pink colour with a spur. Its leaves, finely toothed and ovate-pointed, with fine teeth along the edges, are a beautiful dark green.

Impatiens Sunpatiens Vigorous Rose Pink is more disease-resistant than the classic Impatiens. It is well suited for flowerbeds or large borders mixed with different shades, adding charm and elegance. It can be grown indoors as a perennial plant. In this case, it should be pruned in spring to promote new growth. The Sunpatiens is also a pollution-reducing plant and lowers the surrounding temperature. This plant received three gold medals in 2006 at Euroflora in Italy for best selection, best impatiens, and best bedding plant.

Note: Attention, our young plug plants are professional products reserved for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant and store them under shelter (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame...) at a temperature above 14°C (57.2°F) for a few weeks before planting them outdoors once the risk of frost has definitively passed.

Planting and care

The Sunpatiens Vigorous Rose Pink is easy to grow. It should be placed in full sun or partial shade. Plant it in the ground in spring from March to May, after the last frost, as the Sunpatiens cannot tolerate frost, for flowering from June until the first frost in October. To speed up its growth, pre-cultivate it in a pot in a warm and bright place. Place the Sunpatiens in a fresh, well-drained soil that is rich in humus. Water it generously, but be careful not to overwater. Pruning is not necessary. Very floriferous and fast-growing, it is hungry. Feed it with a liquid fertilizer for containers once or twice a week during the growing season. Remove faded flowers and dry leaves as they appear to keep it looking beautiful and extend the flowering period. Be careful to protect it from slugs, which enjoy their young leaves, but otherwise the Sunpatiens is resistant to diseases.
