I was pleased to receive my young plants but unfortunately I am very disappointed. I am sending you 1 photo, as my 5 plants were in the same condition. I don't even know if they will recover. They arrived with the soil completely dry, the earth was falling on its own. Luckily, I went to pick them up on the same day.

Description

The Begonia semperflorens 'Doublet Pink' offers a unique and delightful flowering, in the shape of 100% double small roses, with a charming shade... pale pink. It forms a compact and rounded clump with bronze foliage, covered with flowers until the frost. This variety, whose faded flowers eliminate themselves, maintains a very neat appearance, without maintenance. This annual plant is easy to grow and can be confidently adopted in containers or flowerbeds, in the sun to accentuate the foliage colour, or in partial shade.

The 'Doublet' Begonia is a non-hardy herbaceous perennial plant, cultivated as an annual, belonging to the Begoniaceae family, and resulting from several hybridisations of original species from Brazil. This variety is part of a series of recent selections chosen for their regular ball-shaped habit and their uniformly double flowers. 'Doublet Pink' has tender but stout, fleshy stems covered with tough, rounded, shiny, dark green leaves, about 5 cm (2 in) long. This very bushy plant will quickly reach about 25 to 30 cm (9.8 - 11.8 in) in all directions. Appearing in April-May and lasting until the first frost, its abundant flowers are all double, with a very bright light pink colour. They are gathered in numerous terminal clusters and bloom among very elegant foliage, which becomes even more colourful when the plant grows in the sun. This variety tolerates both partial shade and full sun, as well as drought. Its sterile flowers naturally fade and fall, reducing maintenance to a minimum.

This Begonia is ideal for full sun, but it can also be placed in partial shade. It can be used in flowerbeds, in vases, in balcony planters, or in large flower pots. The 'Doublet' Begonias pair well with plants with light foliage and flowers, such as lobelias, annual pennisetums, bacopas, bidens, as well as petunias. It is sometimes forgotten, but annual begonias can be used to hide a fence, fill an empty area, or accompany a colourless shrub. In a more exotic spirit, a colourful flowerbed can be created by combining the 'Doublet Pink' Begonia with cannas or hedychiums. Finally, it is good to know that there are hardy begonias, such as Begonia grandis.

Note: Please be aware that our young plants in mini-pots are professional products reserved for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant and store them in sheltered areas (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame...) at a temperature higher than 14°C for a few weeks before being installed outdoors once all risk of frost has passed.

Planting and care

The Begonia 'Doublet Pink' flowers from May until the first frosts. It is placed in a well-drained, fertile, humus-rich and light soil, moist but not waterlogged, in full sun or partial shade. When planting in a bed, respect a minimum spacing of 30 cm (11.8 in) between each young plant. Provide moderate watering (it does not tolerate excess water!) and frequent fertiliser application for intense flowering. During the growing season, it is useful to provide flowering plant fertiliser every week. Beware of snails and slugs that love to devour the young plants. It may be susceptible to powdery mildew and botrytis. Begonia is frost-sensitive, so it does not tolerate negative temperatures. For this reason, it is often cultivated in containers that can be easily brought indoors in greenhouses or under a heated conservatory from the first frost.
