Description

This Rhodoxis duo, comprising the 'Fairy Kisses' and 'Fairytale' varieties, offers a magnificent demonstration of the beauty and diversity of bulbous plants. With their lovely pink-toned flowers that bloom from spring to autumn, these plants are jewels in the garden or balcony crown. Their delicate and graceful deciduous foliage forms a low and dense green blanket. The flowers, resembling small stars, stand out for their delicate shape. These rhodoxis perish below -5°C. They prefer well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral soil that does not dry out too much during the entire growing and flowering period. After flowering, the clumps completely disappear until the following spring. The bulbs go into dormancy.

The duo consists of:

x 1 Rhodoxis 'Fairy Kisses': This variety produces pale pink flowers with a deeper heart, creating a charming contrast. It reaches a height of about 10 cm. Its flowering period extends from May to October.

x 1 Rhodohypoxis 'Fairytale': a remarkable variety with bright and deep pink flowers that captivate the eye. Taller than the Fairy Kisses, this variety can reach up to 15 cm, but its flowering period is similar, making them a beautiful duo.

Rhodoxis Fairy Kisses and Fairytale should ideally by planted in spring. They thrive in full sun or partial shade. Depending on the climate, they can be planted in borders, rockeries, or in large containers. For a harmonious visual effect, plant them in small groups, mixing different colours. Leave a distance of 15 to 20 cm between each plant to allow them to fully develop. Plan for 20 to 25 plants per square metre to achieve q good ground coverage and a dense and colourful effect within 3 years.

To accompany the Rhodoxis duo, opt for the Heuchera 'Palace Purple', its purple foliage will create an interesting colour contrast with the clumps of Rhodoxis. The Gaura lindheimeri 'Whirling Butterflies', with its delicate white flowers, brings lightness and is perfect as a background. Plant the Rhodoxis next to the Sedum 'Matrona', whose light pink flowers will bridge the gap between the white of the Gaura and the pink tones of the Rhodoxis.

Planting and care

Plant your Rhodoxis at a depth of 3-5 cm, spaced 8 to 10 cm apart. They look beautiful in pretty pots, planted in groups of 5 or 10. Choose a slightly acidic substrate, a good horticultural compost mixed with peat soil will be suitable. Avoid repeated watering with hard water (collect rainwater). During the growing and flowering period, frequent watering is necessary. The plants flower from the 1st year of planting. They are sensitive to cold winters with stagnant moisture. In this case, the bulbs will need to be brought indoors before the frosts, where they can spend the winter dry and protected from frosts, preferably in dry peat.
