Explore these pages for our red or purple flowering Magnolias. Mostly thought of as white or pink, the flowering of these small trees or bushes can also approach red, taking on more or less purplish tones. In particular Magnolia Genie, an astonishing deciduous bush that is adorned with large wine-red pompom flowers in spring. Magnolia liliiflora Nigra, on the other hand, produces magnificent upright flowers that resemble purple lilies. Also admire the almost violet flowering of Magnolia Black Tulip, which colours the garden from March onwards. Closer to dark pink, the large bicoloured tulips of Magnolia soulangeana Lennei can be admired from April to May. Treated as trees or bushes depending on their dimensions, which range from 3m (10ft) to over 10 m (33ft), magnolias are particularly ornamental, flower generously, and are very easy to grow once established. These bushes bring incomparable grace and a very beautiful appearance to the garden. Generally deciduous, sometimes fragrant, they adapt to many situations.
