2 branches broken at the end and a main branch partially broken at the base (we'll see if it recovers). The tree is fine, but problem with packaging too big.

Description

The Magnolia Genie is a very floriferous shrub from April to May, ideal for small gardens. The black flower buds give way to wine red flowers, slightly scented. The cup-shaped flowers are pom-pom-like and measure about 12-13cm (5in) in diameter.

The foliage of the Magnolia Genie is deciduous, bronze when young, and later turns a dark green color. This vigorous species has excellent hardiness.

At maturity, the Magnolia Genie can reach a height of 3m (10ft). Plant it individually in your garden or alongside evergreen shrubs such as Rhododendrons or Camellia. Use a carpet of tulips at the base, we particularly recommend the varieties 'Jan Reus', 'Bastogne Parrot' or 'David Teniers'.

Planting and care

The Genie Magnolia needs a few hours of direct sunlight, so grow it in full sun or partial shade, but not in complete shade. Plant it in a sheltered spot away from cold winds, in a moist, rich, deep, well-drained, and preferably neutral soil or in ericaceous compost. In lime-free soil, dig a large planting hole and add ericaceous compost mixed with your garden soil. However, it is less sensitive to limestone than the typical species. Mulch the Magnolia to prevent it from freezing during heavy spring frosts, especially young plants. Water well in cases of drought, but rainfall will usually be sufficient for watering. From February to June, before the leaves emerge, remove dead or diseased wood as well as crossing branches. Prune it gradually to give it its shape, with branches growing from the base of the plant.
