Description

Campanula takesimana 'Elizabeth', or Korean Bellflower, is a graceful perennial plant. It bears large, pink bell-shaped flowers with purple markings.

Forming upright clumps, 40 to 50cm (16 to 20in) in height, it is a robust perennial, offering a multitude of purple-pink flowers in late spring. With large bell-shaped petals measuring 6 to 8cm (2 to 3in) in length, the flowers bloom from June to August.

Easy to grow, Campanula takesimana 'Elizabeth' thrives in full sun or partial shade in any rich but well-draining soil. In moist and light soil, it produces suckers from its base and spreads without ever becoming invasive.

Plant Campanula takesimana 'Elizabeth' either at the edge of a flower bed among perennial geraniums, grasses or veronicas, or at the base of a shrub rose.

Planting and care

Plant in full sun or partial shade, in rich and moist, well-worked soil. This plant requires the same space you would give to a small bush. You can prune the stems at the end of flowering to encourage the emergence of new flowers. Staking may be necessary in windy conditions. You can divide the clumps in autumn and spring. For pot planting, apply organic fertiliser at least once a year.
