Our red-flowering summer bulbs are varieties selected for the vibrancy of their colour, the abundance of their summer flowering and the diversity of their uses in the garden as well as in pots. Within our range of summer bulbs, this category brings together only the red-flowered cultivars to help gardeners create a flowerbed, border, container display or cut flower arrangement in bold red tones. These bulbous, tuberous or rhizomatous plants offer varied habits, heights, and flower shapes, suited to many garden situations.

Among the most emblematic varieties, the giant dahlia 'Spartacus' is known for its very large, dark red flowers and its striking presence at the back of a border. The Canna 'Red King Humbert' adds an exotic touch with its bronze foliage and bright red flowers; it is well-suited to large containers and lush plantings. The gladiolus 'Atom' offers slender flower spikes adorned with bright red flowers that hold up very well in a vase. The Asiatic lily 'Crimson Pixie', being compact, is well-suited to containers and small spaces, with its highly visible carmine red flowers in summer. The red Begonia grandiflora is ideal for window boxes, hanging baskets and borders with little sun exposure. The Alstroemeria 'Majestics Chinon', or Peruvian lily, is valued for its long flowering and its beautiful presence in summer displays.
To complement their red flowering, consider white-flowering summer bulbs.

Plant these red-flowering bulbs after the last frosts in warmed soil, water regularly but not excessively to support flowering, then deadhead spent flowers and lift before winter the bulbs, tubers or rootstocks most sensitive to cold.
