Description

The Dahlia 'Jowey Mirella' is a variety of red garnet-coloured mini ball dahlias that blooms from July to October.

This perennial has swollen tuberous roots. Gathered in bundles, these tubers give rise to upright, hollow and ramified stems, bearing compound leaves with rounded leaflets. Solid, fleshy stems, 110cm (43in) tall, are topped with flowers with wide, flattened, rather incurved ligules, measuring 7cm (3in) in diameter, in a red garnet colour.

The Dahlia 'Jowey Mirella' grows well in rich, clayey but well-drained soil, deeply worked in warm and sunny conditions, sheltered from prevailing winds. It languishes in poor and sandy soils.

The Dahlia 'Jowey Mirella' is used in mixed flower beds with other varieties or for making bouquets.

Tips: When planting, take into account the dimensions for the composition of your flower beds.

Planting and care

The 'Jowey Mirella' Dahlia should be planted from mid-April to early May at a depth of 10 to 15cm (4 to 6in) and with a spacing of 60cm (24in). Always use stakes and tie the young stems loosely. Apply slow-release compost or organic fertilizer during planting and liquid fertilizer once a month during growth. Water without wetting the foliage. There is no need to remove buds on this variety. Treat against aphids and slugs. Dig up the tubers before the frost, cutting the stems to 15cm (6in) from the stump. Store them in darkness in a cool, well-ventilated place that is not too humid. Transplant in early May when there is no longer a risk of frost.
