Description

A collection of 3 Dahlias for bouquets in a harmonious range of warm tones, with flowers of varying shapes and sizes that blend yellow, orange, and all the colors of the dawn. These varieties, which will create joyful splashes of color in shrub and perennial beds, will allow you to create sumptuous bouquets to decorate your interior from July to October.

This collection consists of:

-1x Decorative Dahlia 'David Howard': flowers of 10 cm (4in), gently shaded in yellow, salmon orange, and with chocolate-colored foliage. The compact plant doesn't exceed 70-80 cm (28-32in) in height. It blooms on purple stems.

-1x Cactus Dahlia 'Ludwig Helfert': globular, well-double flowers of 15 cm (6in), with curled petals or ligules, in a beautiful light orange. This variety is particularly floriferous. Height: 1.10 m (4ft)

-1x Decorative Dahlia 'Maxime': rounded, very double flowers of 12 cm (5in), composed of multiple incurved ligules or petals, red in color with a fine yellow to white line border. The floral stems, thin but sturdy, are purple in color. Height: 90 cm (35in).

To promote repeat flowering, make sure to remove faded flowers, or even better, regularly create large colorful bouquets by combining them with other varieties. With their vibrant and warm flowers, the dahlias in this collection elegantly complement white and pale yellow flowers, or even red ones. In beds, they accompany the stars of Asters, for example, which bloom at the same time, as well as the golden panicles of grasses at the height of their beauty, or even Echinaceas. They are also perfect for enhancing bouquets until late in the season.

As the star of borders and cottage gardens, Dahlias confidently accompany the most beautiful flowers, but are also appreciated alongside vegetable plants. In Mexico, this tuberous plant was initially cultivated as a root vegetable for consumption. However, its poor taste qualities relegated it to the status of an ornamental plant. Since then, the interest in their beautiful exuberance has never waned.

Planting and care

Plant your dahlias during the warm days in soil that has been deeply worked and enriched, for example, with crushed horn or dehydrated blood. Place your tuber and crumble the soil well to fill in without any air pockets. Your dahlia should be covered with 6 cm (2in) of soil. At the end of planting, pour one litre of water. Water regularly for the first 6 weeks to aid in rooting. Dahlias are sensitive to cold, so they need to be overwintered under protection. In November, the first frost will blacken the foliage, signaling the time to dig them up. Carefully unearth the tubers, removing as much soil as possible. Let the foliage dry so the tuber can replenish its reserves. Once the foliage is dry, cut the stems 10 cm (4in) from the tubercle. Spread your bulbs in a box on top of newspaper. Store in a frost-free, dry, cool, and dark place.
