Description
Buddleja davidii Tiny Buddy® Hot Pink is a miniature butterfly bush, perfect for cheering up small gardens, balconies and sunny patios. This variety forms a neat cushion that is covered all summer with bright pink, lightly scented spikes, visited by pollinators. Plant it in a flowering border, a decorative pot or a low bed. Undemanding of water, easy to prune and non-invasive, this butterfly bush offers maximum impact for minimum upkeep!
Buddleja davidii ‘Condappin’ cov, sold under the name Tiny Buddy® Hot Pink, is a patented dwarf cultivar from the Tiny Buddy® series, known for its compact, sterile and floriferous varieties. This miniature buddleia has a naturally rounded, dense cushion-like habit, reaching 40 to 50 cm in height and width at maturity. Its growth is moderate, its structure well-branched from the base, and it produces neither suckers nor spontaneous seedlings.
From June to September, this butterfly bush is covered in upright spikes measuring 15 to 25 cm long, filled with bright, luminous pink tubular flowers with a light fragrance. These nectar-rich flowers attract butterflies, bees and other pollinating insects.
The deciduous foliage is composed of opposite, narrow, lanceolate, 5 to 10 cm long leaves. They are a beautiful bluish-green colour on top with a slightly downy silvery-grey underside. Like all buddleias, this cultivar flowers on the current year’s wood. It is hardy down to -25°C.
Tiny Buddy® Hot Pink holds a Formidable Plant® label, a guarantee of quality, robustness and performance for both amateur and professional gardeners.
Buddleja Tiny Buddy® Hot Pink is a small shrub ideal for creating lively summer scenes, even in a restricted space. Its well-defined cushion habit and bright pink flowering looks good in flowering pots, borders or low beds. It pairs well with compact perennials such as Gaura lindheimeri ‘Whirling Butterflies’, shrubby sage ‘Nachtvlinder’ or Geranium ‘Rozanne’. For a natural and colourful feel, it can be combined with grasses such as Pennisetum alopecuroides ‘Hameln Gold’. Very decorative in a pot on a sunny patio, it also attracts beneficial wildlife.

Planting and care
Buddleia davidii 'Tiny Buddy Hot Pink' is easy to grow, as it is an undemanding plant. It enjoys sunny positions, but will also flower in partial shade in southern regions. Plant it in spring or early autumn, in ordinary soil, even chalky, but well-worked and well-drained. Once well established, the plant will tolerate periods of moderate drought. Buddleia has no significant pests. However, watch out for caterpillars, vine weevils, bugs and red spider mites, which can invade it.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
In temperate climates, pruning of spring-flowering shrubs (forsythia, spireas, etc.) should be done just after flowering.
Pruning of summer-flowering shrubs (Indian Lilac, Perovskia, etc.) can be done in winter or spring.
In cold regions as well as with frost-sensitive plants, avoid pruning too early when severe frosts may still occur.
The harvesting period indicated on our website applies to countries and regions in USDA zone 8 (France, England, Ireland, the Netherlands).
In colder areas (Scandinavia, Poland, Austria...) fruit and vegetable harvests are likely to be delayed by 3-4 weeks.
In warmer areas (Italy, Spain, Greece, etc.), harvesting will probably take place earlier, depending on weather conditions.
The sowing periods indicated on our website apply to countries and regions within USDA Zone 8 (France, UK, Ireland, Netherlands).
In colder areas (Scandinavia, Poland, Austria...), delay any outdoor sowing by 3-4 weeks, or sow under glass.
In warmer climes (Italy, Spain, Greece, etc.), bring outdoor sowing forward by a few weeks.
The planting period indicated on our website applies to regions in USDA Zone 9a (East Coast and Midlands: Dublin, Wexford, Waterford, Kilkenny, Portlaoise). It will vary depending on where you live:
- On the west coast and in the north-west (Galway, Limerick, Sligo, Donegal, Westport), delay planting by 1 to 2 weeks in spring and bring it forward by 1 to 2 weeks in autumn compared to the dates given, preferably choosing periods without strong winds.
- In the inland hills and plateaus (Wicklow Mountains, Macgillycuddy’s Reeks, Connemara, Killarney), it is best to plant in spring (April–May) or autumn (September–October), avoiding periods of waterlogged soil in winter and strong winds, which pose the main risk to newly planted trees in these areas.
The flowering period indicated on our website applies to regions in USDA Zone 9a, such as the East Coast and Midlands, including Dublin, Wexford, Waterford, Kilkenny and Portlaoise.
This will vary depending on where you live:
- On the west coast and in the northwest (Galway, Limerick, Sligo, Donegal and Westport), it will be delayed by one to two weeks compared to the given dates, due to stronger Atlantic winds and less spring sunshine.
- In the inland hills and plateaus (the Wicklow Mountains, the Macgillycuddy's Reeks, Connemara and Killarney), flowering will be delayed by two to three weeks. Flowering mainly occurs between May and July, with the limiting factors being less frost and more of the excessive humidity, strong winds and lack of sunshine that are characteristic of these areas.
