Chrysanthemum indicum Goldmarianne

Chrysanthemum x indicum 'Goldmarianne' is a very floriferous garden chrysanthemum with multiple sun-like flowers in the shape of small golden yellow dahlias with a bright yellow heart that beautifully animate flowerbeds and terraces at the end of the season. This perennial will quickly form a tall and beautiful clump with abundant flowering for several weeks, until the first frost. Hardy and long-lasting, easy to grow in any good garden soil, this plant (also known as the autumn daisy) is perfect in a cottage garden.

Chrysanthemum x rubellum is an herbaceous and rhizomatous perennial plant with a woody stump, belonging to the Asteraceae family. It is a hybrid obtained by cross-breeding different species originating from East Asia (Chrysanthemum indicum) and Siberia (C. zawadskii). The 'Goldmarianne' cultivar forms, from spring onwards, a bush measuring 70-75 cm (28-30in) in height and 50 cm (20in) in width, composed of leafy and branching woody stems at the base. Its growth is quite rapid. The flowering period extends from early September to late October or early November. The plant produces numerous flowers gathered in heads, in the shape of daisies, semi-double, reaching 4 cm (2in) in diameter, grouped in small bouquets at the top of the leafy stems. The disc is a bright dark yellow, the ligules on the periphery, wide and rounded, are a lighter and very bright golden yellow. The leaves are ovate-triangular, roughly divided into 5 lobes, and measure up to 5 cm (2in) in length. They are toothed at the edges, dark green in colour with a slightly dull appearance, and villous underneath. The above-ground vegetation dries out in winter and regrows in spring. Its stump, very perennial, will live for a long time in the garden.

Garden chrysanthemums offer immense worth during a slightly less abundant time of year for flowers, and their colours harmonise remarkably well with those of autumn. They can be combined with asters in complementary colours. Their flowering will be lightened by the presence of cosmos, shrubby sages, and gauras. These plants particularly blend well with grasses such as stipes, small miscanthus, eragrostis, and foxtail barley (Hordeum jubatum). They can easily be planted in pots to adorn balconies and terraces, and provide beautiful flowers for bouquets.
