The 3 young plants received in February have taken very well (despite a cold and wet spring), they have grown many new leaves and sturdy stems, I can't wait to see them flower!

Description

Aster dumosus 'Augenweide' is a robust perennial that blooms from August to October with a multitude of violet-pink flowers resembling small daisies. Its running stump emits ramified stems, adorned with lanceolate, dark green, glossy leaves.

Aster dumosus 'Augenweide' is a dwarf aster, reaching a height of 30cm (12in), that brings the garden to life in late summer and early autumn. It thrives in a sunny or slightly shaded location in rich, moist soil. Easy to grow and hardy, this aster enhances numerous autumn scenes at a time when most flowering perennials have disappeared. You can plant them in the foreground of a border or in a container, combined with grasses with elongated foliage, sedums, and colourful heucheras. It can also cheerfully brighten up a border, a wall, or a rockery.

Asters belong to the Asteraceae family, which mainly consists of herbaceous plants. It is a highly diversified genus that offers a multitude of species in a wide range of colours. The most well-known asters bloom in autumn like this one, but some flourish earlier in the season. If you appreciate this particularly rustic flowering, consider these spring and summer asters to enjoy the beautiful blooms for a longer period.

Planting and care

Plant Aster dumosus 'Augenweide' in autumn or spring in a flower bed or border, in rich soil that is not too dry or damp. It prefers a sunny exposure but can tolerate partial shade. In a flower bed, leave at least 30cm (12in) between plants. Mulch the soil from the end of spring and water in case of drought, being careful not to wet the foliage to limit the appearance of powdery mildew, to which asters are susceptible. At the end of flowering, cut back the clump to 10cm (4in). Divide the clumps every 2 to 3 years to maintain vigorous plants, more resistant to powdery mildew.
