All the bulbs have emerged and the young plants are robust. They are ready to flower in the coming days (not as late as expected after all).

Description

The 'White Touch' Late Double Tulip is a very recent variety, belonging to a new generation of double and fully bloomed hybrids called peony-flowered tulips. It offers large double flowers, white in colour, warmed at the heart with a hint of yellow and brushed with tender green flames on the reverse. Easy to combine with all kinds of flowers due to its neutral colour that brings a real freshness, it is endowed with good hardiness and a stem resistant to bad weather. It will find its place in the garden as well as in bouquets of all styles. It usually blooms in May, depending on the climate.

The 'White Touch' Tulip belongs to the lily family. Of horticultural origin, obtained in 2010 in the Netherlands, it is currently classified in the group of 'Late Double Tulips', whose main characteristic is to have very double and crumpled flowers, long-lasting, carried by strong stems. 'White Touch' is rather tall (50cm (20in)) and its flower is of beautiful size, very double and well bloomed.  It shows excellent holding. It is a real favorite, especially when its buds slowly open in a vase, gradually shedding petals like a rain of pearly petals. The flowering starts relatively late, in May, at a time when other tulips have already withered for a long time.

With various colours, soft or vibrant, opulent and naive flowers, late double tulips bring fantasy and romance to pots or sunny gardens, accompanying the most beautiful spring blooms. This variety 'White Touch' is perfect for creating a strong contrast with black varieties like 'Black Hero', bright red like 'Uncle Tom' in a sober and contemporary style. Conversely, in the company of pastel tulips like 'Angelique', 'Foxtrot', 'Creme Up Star' and 'La Belle Epoque', it will compose a slightly naive tableau that will not be out of place in a romantically inspired flowerbed. Its marriage with 'Carnaval de Nice', variegated with white and red, is very complementary. Don't forget to consider the height and flowering period when designing your flowerbeds, as these parameters vary significantly from one cultivar to another. It is wise to plant a few more bulbs for bouquets, as they last a long time in a vase, and that's where the flowers of 'White Touch' will give the greatest satisfaction.

Planting and care

Place the 'White Touch' tulips in a sunny or partially shaded location from late September to December for spring flowering. Plant the bulbs in a light and well-drained soil, loosened to a depth of 15cm (6in). Space the bulbs 10cm (4in) apart without touching each other to create a mass effect that will give a more decorative appearance. The care required is very easy. Simply water regularly, especially during dry winters, and cut the flower stems after flowering. Allow the leaves to dry completely before cutting them.
