A trio of healthy vine-plant bulbs planted upon receipt and already growing after just a short month. We had already planted some last year, one of which actually reached a good double metre! No maintenance: they grow on their own in the middle of a rather inhospitable medium for any other plant. And surprisingly, they resist the wind very well! Very nice. We might order some again next year :-)

Description

Allium 'Summer Drummer' is a spectacular and unique perennial bulbous plant with large mauve-purple and white flowering globes in summer.

This ornamental plant produces large round flowers measuring 15 to 20cm (6 to 8in) in mauve and white. At full bloom, the allium can reach over 1m (3ft) in height. One of our customers saw theirs reach a height of 2m (7ft)!

These alliums are not particularly demanding in terms of soil type and exposure. They are very easy to grow due to their hardiness.

This is one of the few alliums that bloom in the middle of summer, rather than at the end of spring.

Allium 'Summer Drummer' looks great when planted with Stachys Byzantina 'Big Ears' and Eryngium alpinum 'Blue Star'.

Planting and care

Alliums are easy-to-grow plants. Plant them preferably before the end of October so that they have time to establish themselves well. They fear moisture. Offer them a sunny spot in well-drained soils, even rocky ones. Plant larger bulbs at a depth of 10 or 15cm (4 or 6in), spaced 15cm (6in) apart. Plant smaller bulbs at a depth of 10cm (4in), spaced 7cm (3in) apart. They are undemanding, but do prefer poor soils.
