Description

Allium stipitatum 'White Giant' is a variety of ornamental garlic with pure white flowers, much larger than the species, perched at over 1.2m (4ft) in height.

Originally from the steppes of Central Asia, Allium stipitatum forms a very tall inflorescence, reaching over 1.2m (4ft) in height, with a small, tousled head of mauve-pink flowers.

The 'White Giant' variety is an extraordinary new creation. Its inflorescence, perched at 1.2m (4ft) in height, develops large umbels of pure white flowers, measuring up to 20cm (8in) in diameter! It blooms between May and June.

Easy to grow, Allium 'White Giant' appreciates any type of moist but well-drained soil and a sunny location. Used in borders or as edging, it can also be grown in a pot to enjoy its beautiful flowering on a balcony or patio. Enhance your floral arrangements with its large flowers, or dry them for a guaranteed touch of originality!

Plant them in groups of 5, nestled among perennials, peonies, and roses, or combine them with topiary boxwoods for a spectacular sculptural effect.

Planting and care

Allium stipitatum 'White Giant' is an ornamental garlic that is easy to grow. Plant it preferably before the end of October so that it has time to establish itself. It fears moisture. Give it a sunny spot in well-drained, even rocky soil. It is undemanding, but does prefer poor soil.

Plant larger bulbs at a depth of 10 or 15cm (4 or 6in), spaced 15cm (6in) apart. Plant smaller bulbs at a depth of 10cm (4in), spaced 7cm (3in) apart.
