Description

Aster ericoides 'Blue Wonder' is an original variety, whose pale-blue flowers in autumn change colour to become purple. The very fine leaves resemble those of heathers, giving a lot of lightness to this airy perennial that stands out in the garden long before the flowers appear.

Aster ericoides are good, hardy perennial plants with very limited requirements. They do not require staking and are not very susceptible to diseases. They do not need to be divided and integrate perfectly into mixed borders with any type of perennials. A beautiful and long flowering period, decorative foliage in summer, and very few requirements, make 'Blue Wonder' a must-have for all aster enthusiasts.

The Aster genus offers a wide diversity of floriferous varieties, in all colours, for spring, summer or autumn, and for all kinds of uses and growing mediums.

Planting and care

Plant in well-drained and loosened soil, covering the top of the root ball with 3cm (1in) of soil. Mulch all asters every year in November after cutting them back. In March, stake any plants that exceed 80cm (32in) in height to maintain vigour and flower quality. It is highly recommended to buy asters in pots as they will grow quickly and well. This aster is resistant to mildew. Not very demanding, all types of soil are suitable for them. However, stagnant moisture in winter can be fatal to them.
