Description

Ajuga reptans 'Burgundy Glow' is a creeping perennial, which has a beautiful evergreen variegated green and red foliage.

The rampant bugle 'Burgundy Glow' has a rosette foliage variegated with pink, bronze green, and cream white, making it an excellent groundcover. The foliage is evergreen, providing a touch of colour to your garden in winter. This perennial can produce stolons, allowing it to colonise flower beds quickly. The flowers of the Bugle are in the form of small blue-violet spikes in spring.

The bugle is not demanding in terms of soil type and exposure. If it is in full sun, it is necessary to ensure that the base of the plant remains moist during summer.

Ajuga will thrive alongside campanulas, hellebores, and heathers.

Planting and care

Prepare a planting hole of 20 cm (8in) x 20 cm (8in) x 20 cm (8in). If your soil is heavy, mix some compost with the loose soil, partially fill the hole and place your plant (after removing the pot) in such a way that the top of the root ball is covered with 3 cm (1in) of soil. Adding a base fertilizer e.g. bonemeal, will nourish your plant during its rooting period. Firm the soil and water generously to eliminate air pockets. If the weather is dry, you will need to water regularly for a few weeks to help your plant to establish.
