A selection of plants to repel mosquitoes, a real summer nuisance. Like Lemon verbena (Lippia citriodora, Aloysia triphylla), true citronella Cymbopogon citratus or the Fragrant Geranium, some plants are natural mosquito repellents. Indeed, their foliage contains different fragrant essential oils such as linalool and geraniol, which these insects do not enjoy. They are also used by the pharmaceutical industry and in aromatherapy for their proven repellent properties. Many other aromatic plants not only repel mosquitoes, but also various crop pests. These include peppermint, Calendula officinalis or garden marigold, Eucalyptus or even lavenders. We have included all of them on these pages. While their protection is not perfect, having these plants on the edge of a window, on a balcony or patio can be a plus.

Mosquitoes have many natural predators among birds, bats, amphibians, certain aquatic insects and fish. Encourage their presence in the garden by installing nest boxes or leaving certain small areas fallow.
