Description

The Giant Mike Mustard is a variety native to China, reaching a height of 60 cm (24in). Its leaves are green with serrated edges. Its flavour is strong and spicy, similar to arugula. It can be consumed raw, sliced as a condiment in salads and raw vegetables, or cooked, like spinach. The spiciness disappears when cooked. Its taste becomes more anise-like. Sow in August and September for a harvest in May and June.

Mustard has been cultivated for a very long time in China, Japan, and India. It requires a supply of well-rotted compost (3 kg/m²).

Harvest: Harvest the Chinese mustard, leaf by leaf, as needed.

Storage: Mustard leaves should be consumed as soon as possible.

Gardener's tip: Regular weeding and hoeing should be done. A protective insect net can be installed against flea beetles.

Organic or "AB" seeds are derived from plants grown in organic agriculture (without pesticides). They undergo no treatment after harvest. These seeds are suitable for organic market gardening.

from August to September.

Seeds are sown thinly in loosened soil, spaced 40 cm (16in) apart in rows. Cover the seeds with half a centimetre of compost or fine soil. Gently firm with the back of a rake and water with a fine spray. Keep sufficiently moist until germination, which usually takes 8 days.

Maintenance

When the young plants have 4 to 5 leaves, thin out, leaving one plant every 25 cm (10in). Weed and water regularly.
