Description

The Tulip viridiflora 'Twilight Princess' produces classically shaped flowers, brushed and streaked with light green on a cream-white background, which are suitable for both borders and vases. They bloom in April-May, adding a fresh touch to borders, beds, and pots. Planted en masse, it pairs beautifully with other spring blooms. It looks particularly stunning alongside dark tulips such as 'Negrita' or 'Black Parrot'.

The Tulip viridiflora 'Twilight Princess' belongs to the Liliaceae family. It is a horticultural variety introduced to the market in 2011 and is currently classified in Division 8, which is the least significant group closely related to late-flowering single tulips. The main characteristics of 'Viridiflora' tulips are a relatively late flowering season and flowers streaked or streaked with green. The 'Twilight Princess' variety will reach a height of 45 cm (18in) when in bloom. Perched on sturdy stems, well above the broadly lanceolate leaves, the flowers are cup-shaped and measure 6 cm (2in) wide. Their six cream-white "petals" (more precisely tepals) are randomly streaked with light green in the centre. The flowering takes place at the end of April or in May, towards the end of the tulip season. Another advantage of the Tulip viridiflora is that its flowers remain beautiful for at least three weeks. It is an excellent cut flower.

The Tulip viridiflora 'Twilight Princess' can be paired with both biennial and perennial flowers, for example with daisies or pink pansies. It adds charm to your borders. It can also be planted in small clusters in rockeries and, of course, used in bouquets with roses and gypsophila, for example.

Planting and care

Place the green-flowered tulip in a sunny spot for a beautiful spring flowering. You can also plant it in a partially shaded location. Plant the bulbs as soon as possible in a light, fertile, and well-drained soil, loosened to a depth of 15 cm (6in) (bulbs should be covered with twice their height in soil). Space the bulbs 10 cm (4in) apart, making sure they do not touch each other to create a mass effect that will be more decorative.
