Bushy Pink Flowering Salvias. These perennial shrubs, derived from Salvia greggii, S. grahamii, S. microphylla, or S. jamensis, form small bushes measuring 50 to 80cm (20 to 32in) in all directions depending on the variety, covered in flowers for a very long period between spring and autumn. All shades of pink are present in these plants. Very pale pink (Salvia x jamensis 'Delice Roselilac'), salmon pink (Salvia greggii 'Mirage Salmon'), intense fuchsia pink (Salvia microphylla 'Cerro Potozi'), pure pink, and purple pink. The variety 'Pink Blush' is a very bright pink-red, while 'Pink Lips', a bicolour pink and white, is a lovely pink version of the famous Salvia microphylla 'Hot Lips'. The cultivar 'Icing Sugar' is adorned with shades of fuchsia pink and soft pink. In the garden, pink pairs well with white, mauve and violet tones, and even purple. However, intense red tends to overpower it. Bushy salvias are water-efficient, not very demanding in terms of soil, and require little maintenance aside from light pruning in spring. Depending on the variety, these small bushes are more or less hardy and can be easily grown in pots, to be stored indoors during harsh frosts.
