I am delighted to have planted these two magnolias. Thanks to their small size, they help give good structure to the garden’s volumes. Their evergreen foliage brings it to life in winter. I am looking forward to their fragrant flowering... The specimens that Promesse de Fleurs delivered to me were well packaged, are vigorous, and have been doing well since planting.

Description
The Michelia Duo - Fragrant Small Magnolias brings together two exceptional hybrid magnolias: 'Fairy Blush' and 'Fairy White'. These bushes have beautiful glossy, dark green, evergreen foliage that is decorative even in winter. They charm with their star-shaped, 8 cm diameter, scented cup flowers for several weeks between March and June. The hardiness of these magnolias is moderate; they should be grown in containers in very cold regions and stored in a cold greenhouse during winter. In milder climates, they can be planted in the garden, near a pathway to fully enjoy their fragrance.
The collection includes:
1 'Fairy Blush' Magnolia: this Michelia hybrid is characterised by its flowers formed by 6 waxy petals with a subtle colour, pale pink with a lilac border, becoming whiter as the season progresses. It is slow-growing and can reach a height and width of 2.50 m to 3 m when planted in the ground. It will remain smaller if grown in a pot.
1 'Fairy White' Magnolia: the flowers of this hybrid are pure white and nicely scented. A little smaller than the previous one, it rarely exceeds 2.50 m in all directions.
These fragrant magnolias are best planted in spring. They appreciate a sunny to semi-shaded location and a well-drained, fairly rich, slightly acidic to neutral soil. In pots, choose containers of at least 50 litres and plant one magnolia per pot. This allows the roots to develop well and the plant to thrive. Make sure the pots have drainage holes to prevent excess water and use a mixture of potting soil and garden soil to provide a rich and well-drained substrate. In the ground, keep a spacing of 2 m between each plant.
Pair your magnolias with camellias, Japanese azaleas, and large rhododendrons, which have similar soil and exposure requirements. Camellias, with their large colourful flowers, can be placed in front of the magnolias. Azaleas, arranged along the border, will provide a vibrant spring flowering. Rhododendrons, planted in the background, will form a screen of greenery and flowers in summer.

The Michelia 'Fairy' prefers well-worked, light, neutral or slightly acidic soils, rich in organic matter, moist but without stagnant water. It appreciates sunny exposures and tolerates partial shade. It can be grown in the ground in regions with mild winters, with a hardiness of around -12°C once mature. This bush does not tolerate transplantation well once established, so choose its location carefully.
Its appearance and growth will be very different depending on whether it is planted in the ground or in a container, in partial shade or in a sunny exposure. When grown in shade, its habit is more open and sparse, with darker foliage. If, on the contrary, it is exposed to the sun, it will show a more compact habit, denser foliage, smaller and lighter green leaves. When grown in a large container, its growth is limited. Watering should be regular in summer, at least during its first years, but it dislikes excessive moisture in winter. It becomes more tolerant with age. It may be a good idea to create a drainage bed at the bottom of the planting hole. In late winter, before the start of vegetation, remove dead wood and tangled branches to keep only the vigorous ones and maintain a beautiful habit.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
In temperate climates, pruning of spring-flowering shrubs (forsythia, spireas, etc.) should be done just after flowering.
Pruning of summer-flowering shrubs (Indian Lilac, Perovskia, etc.) can be done in winter or spring.
In cold regions as well as with frost-sensitive plants, avoid pruning too early when severe frosts may still occur.

- In the inland hills and plateaus (Wicklow Mountains, Macgillycuddy’s Reeks, Connemara, Killarney), it is best to plant in spring (April–May) or autumn (September–October), avoiding periods of waterlogged soil in winter and strong winds, which pose the main risk to newly planted trees in these areas.
