This Polet Merlin with a 90 cm (35in) hickory wood handle has a dual function: its steel head has one side with a forged and sharpened beveled edge, designed for splitting wood like an axe, and a flattened side that can be used to drive in a wedge. The hickory wood handle is particularly resistant. It is an ideal model for splitting hard and thick wood.
