We bought several Dreamland geranium plants, at 2 different times. Most of them are as floriferous as Rozanne, and we are delighted. On the other hand, a few meters away, and despite our care, another one is completely languishing. The mysteries of nature...

Description

The Geranium 'Dreamland' has green foliage with white edges in spring, as well as very beautiful and exceptionally long-lasting flowering. It blooms from late spring to autumn, just like Geranium Rozanne, but it tolerates drought even better.

The flowers of this perennial geranium are a delicate shade of pink, with slightly darker veins running through the petals. They are about 5 cm (2in) in diameter and open above the foliage. The flowering is continuous as these flowers constantly renew themselves.

This geranium is undemanding, very tolerant, and adapts well to many different situations. It is perfect as ground cover in your shrub or rose beds. It also pairs very advantageously with taller perennials such as lupins and salvias.

This geranium was bred by Alan Bremner, a renowned specialist in this plant genus, and was obtained in 1998.

Planting and care

The Dreamland Geranium is undemanding, meaning it will grow well in both full sun and partial shade. The type of soil is not important, just make sure there is no stagnant water at its base during the harshness of winter. At planting, work the soil to a depth of 20 cm3, crumble the earth well, and add a base amendment such as dried blood or horn. Position your plant, freed from its pot, and cover the top of the root ball with 3 cm (1in) of soil. Fill in and water thoroughly to eliminate any air pockets. If planted in very dry weather it is necessary to water regularly for a few weeks to facilitate root establishment. Division of your perennial geranium should preferably be carried out in autumn, after flowering. Division allows the plant to regain vigour.
