Description

This collection of three essential perennials for full sun combines three striking plants to create a vibrant and hardy garden, even in the hottest sunshine. The trio ensures generous flowering from late spring until autumn. These robust perennials are resistant to both cold and drought and offer contrasting foliage and flowers: purple umbels for the Verbena, white, butterfly-like flowers for the Gaura and golden spikes for the Stipa. They will add texture and volume to a sunny border or large flowerbed.

The collection consists of 3 plants:

1 Buenos Aires Verbena : Verbena bonariensis is a tall, undemanding, self-seeding perennial whose airy violet flowers bring elegance and lightness to companion plants. It flowers from late spring until autumn.

1 Gaura lindheimeri White, a wonderful variety that combines many qualities. From June to September, its rounded, compact and balanced shape is covered in an abundance of pale pink buds that open into small, graceful white flowers. These are gathered in light spikes that overwhelm the very soft grey-green foliage.

1 Stipa tenuifolia, this grass quickly forms an incredible fountain of fresh green 'hair' waving at the slightest breeze, before transforming into silky, blonde and light tufts in early summer.

These hardy perennials can be planted in spring or autumn in well-drained soil in a sunny spot. They can tolerate dry conditions. To maximise their visual impact, plant them in a natural and staggered pattern, spacing them 40–50 cm apart. This collection covers an area of about 1 m² and forms a bright, elegant flowerbed that requires little maintenance. These plants can withstand temperatures as low as -15°C, so they can remain in place throughout winter.

Planting and care

These perennials should be planted in spring or autumn in a sunny spot in well-prepared, properly drained soil. Mix your garden soil with compost and add gravel if it is very clayey or compacted. They adapt equally well to slightly acidic or chalky soils, and once well-rooted, they can tolerate summer drought.
