Description

Petunia Surfinia Blue Vein is a beautiful new variety with white flowers veined with dark blue. It is perfect for pots and hanging baskets with its trailing habit. It will also enhance the borders of your flowerbeds or the base of your climbing plants.

Surfinia petunias are among the most recent developments. They are covered with small but numerous flowers. They are more drought-resistant and thrive in sunny locations.

Supplied as growing plants measuring 4 to 8cm (2 to 3in) packaged in sets of 5 small plugs measuring 2.8cm (1in) in diameter and 4cm (2in) high, individually labelled. Our plants are at least eight weeks old and strong enough to be planted in the ground.

Note: Our plug plants are products reserved for experienced gardeners. Upon receipt, transplant and store them in sheltered areas (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame...) at a temperature above 14°C (57.2°F) for a few weeks before planting them outdoors once all risk of frost has passed.

Planting and care

You can plant your petunias in the ground or in a pot. If you want to plant them in the ground, wait until the last heavy frosts have passed (surfinia petunias can tolerate a small late frost). In the meantime, you can grow them on in a pot in a warm and bright place to accelerate their growth. Plant your petunias in a sunny location sheltered from the wind. They need light and humus-bearing, well-draining soil. Do not water them too much at the beginning of their growth as they are sensitive to excess moisture. They tolerate drought well but will need regular watering during hot summer weather. They are floriferous and fast-growing, hungry plants. We recommend feeding them with a liquid fertiliser once or twice a week during the growing season. Remove faded flowers and dry leaves as they appear, to keep them looking good and extend the flowering period.
