More information

This mixture of annual and perennial plants, which are very resistant and capable of regrowing at the end of summer, limits the proliferation of weeds at the base of trees. It also makes mowing easier and protects tree collars from injuries caused by the lawnmower. The seeds are sown from March to June or in September-October, in situ, in well-prepared soil. The plants will flower from June to September or from April to July, depending on the sowing date.

Description

This Tree Base Meadow Flower Mix combines 28 species of perennial or annual plants to sow at the base of trees to limit the appearance of weeds, but also the damage to the base of tree trunks that can be caused by mowing. Very resistant, the plants form a ground cover that flowers for several months and regenerates at the end of summer. The seeds are sown in spring or late summer, in the sun or in partial shade, in freshly cleared soil that has been worked and loosened. The ground cover that is created establishes itself for several years and some plants will self-sow wherever they please.

All the plants in this mixture are robust and hardy. They show rather rapid growth and establish themselves very easily in ordinary soil. The annuals flower 6 to 8 weeks after sowing, while the perennials will produce flowers from the following spring. The flowering period generally extends from April to September once all the species are established. One box of seeds can cover approximately 30 square metres (323 square feet). The height of the plants does not exceed 40 cm (15.7 in).

Partial composition: Chrysanthemum paludossum, Brachycome, Lobularia maritima, Silene compacta.

This meadow flower mix is very trendy and combines usefulness with pleasure: flowering throughout the summer season, it restores ecological balance, promotes biodiversity, and requires very little maintenance. Watering if the weather is very dry and cutting to 10 cm (3.9 in) in autumn will be more than enough. Invite nature into your garden: sow our flower mixes under trees and shrubs, along paths, near the vegetable garden, or on the embankment bordering a sunken path, near your fruit trees, or at the back of the garden on the border with the countryside.

Planting and care

Sowing:

Sow directly in place, from March to early June, once the soil has warmed up, or in September-October, in well-prepared soil that has been cleared of weeds and raked. Sow finely on the surface of the soil by broadcasting, then lightly rake to cover the seeds. Roll or tamp down the soil with the back of a spade. Water and keep moist until germination. Alternatively, sow at a depth of 1.5 mm (0.1 in) in furrows spaced 30 cm (11.8 in) apart. Germination usually takes 14 to 30 days.

Cultivation:

When the young plants appear, water well and remove weeds. In autumn, at the end of flowering, you can collect seeds and sow them elsewhere. Water well to make the seeds adhere to the soil. Once the plants are well established, you should only water your bed in case of prolonged drought.
