A selection of yellow-flowered Potentillas. From the perennial Potentilla aurea to the typical shrub-like Potentilla fruticosa, yellow is very common among these plants. Horticulturists have selected varieties in recent years that have single to double flowers in a range of shades from pale yellow ('Lemon Meringue') to golden yellow ('Goldfinger') and almost orange dark yellow (P. fruticosa Solar'issima). These plants bring the garden to life with their small sunny flowers, which appear in spring or throughout the summer depending on the variety. The perennial Potentillas, small in size, find their place in sunny borders and rockeries. The small bushy shrubs, not exceeding 1.50m (5ft), have an upright or spreading habit and can be used in flower beds or low hedges.
